Día 11
PACIENCIA

-Romanos 15:5-6 (NTV)

«El buen juicio hace al hombre paciente;

-Santiago 4:6-8(a) (NTV)

¡No podía creerlo!

No necesariamente me refiero a retos físicos, sino espirituales y mentales.

Day 11
PATIENCE

«May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus. Then all of you can join together with one voice, giving praise and glory to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.»

-Romans 15:5-6 (NLT)

«A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.»
-Proverbs 19:11 (NIV)

«But he gives us even more grace to stand against such evil desires. As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but favors the humble.”So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you.»
-James 4:6-8(a) (NLT)

When I was a little girl I grew up in a house with two siblings, my sister Linda who’s just a year younger than I, and my baby brother Jonathan who is seven years younger. When I was entering my pre-teen years, Jonathan was still a rambunctious little kid who got a kick out of teasing me to the point of insanity. He’d go in my room to take my belongings, tattle tell on me for everything, or just do the things he knew annoyed me. My patience towards him often times wasn’t the most admirable. My mother would always say, “ignore him” or “be patient, he’s just a kid” and my blood would boil all the more. I just wanted him to stop bugging me, and the one person who could command him to, instead was telling me to be patient!

One day I decided to obey my mom, and patiently ignore my brother’s teases. To my surprise, after a little while he stopped! I couldn’t believe it! Patience worked! Of course now my brother and I are adults and we laugh about those days all the time. But at the time, being the emotional young lady that I was, I felt powerless and overwhelmed. That was until I found the power of patience.

This week is one of challenges. I’m not necessarily referring to physical challenges, but to spiritual and mental challenges. We have decided to stand our ground in our pursuit of God. We have set the focus of our hearts on patience, tolerance, forgiveness and restoration, perfect ingredients for unity. Because of this, week two is probably the most challenging of all three. The enemy hates unity among God’s people, therefore he will challenge it at all cost. He will cause us to feel overwhelmed and with the desire of quitting. Don’t do it! Stay strong!

We already know that “our struggle is not against enemies of flesh and blood, but against spiritual rulers, authorities, powers, and forces of evil” (Ephesians 6:12). One of their best strategies of attack is to battle us in our minds, by planting thoughts of all sorts that go against the Word of God. Usually when the enemy comes to attack, he comes real hard, real fast, and real strong. If he’s attacking you in your mind, constant bad thoughts harass you. If he’s attacking your body, pain or sickness debilitates you. It will always be intense and overwhelming. His goal is to make you doubt God and fall.

Let me show you something I learned from the Holy Spirit about patience a little while back. Some time ago, I was under attack. Everywhere I looked there was full-blown battle. I was sick; my mind was undergoing big tests; my relationships seemed to be on the rocks; everything seemed to be falling apart. So, one day when I was talking to the Holy Spirit I asked, “how can I get through this?” I could hear his sweet whisper in my heart saying, “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

I immediately looked in my Bible for that scripture in James 4:6-8 (above). I noticed that it also says that God gives us grace to stand, and gives us favor if we humble ourselves, and he comes close to us when we come close to Him. Sometimes we pray to God for him to just pull us out of our trial, instead of asking him to give us strength to resist as we pass through them. There is a much bigger spiritual benefit that comes with passing through our trials and coming out successfully than just giving up when the going gets tough. We must ask God to grant us the grace to stand through our trials. That way we come forth stronger than before.

As I realized that, I could hear the Holy Spirit speak to me again, “the enemy works in the fruit of the flesh. He cannot operate in the fruit of the Spirit.” So I looked into the Word again. According to Galatians 5:19-23 the fruit of the flesh is: “sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these”; and the fruit of the Spirit is: “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” Therefore, the enemy will never be patient in his attacks. He will come full force and full intent, but it won’t be long. All we must do is resist, and he will flee from us!

When I obeyed God and resisted, I noticed that my attacks never lasted more than a week or two. I asked, and God gave me grace to stand, and He still does! This week may just be one of those in which the enemy is trying to deviate our attention from being patient, tolerant, and forgiving. But we will not let him gain territory. We will take on God’s grace and stand. We will not need to fight, because God has already won. We will resist. We will have patience.

Today’s Prayer:
“Dear Jesus. I praise you because you know our every need and take care of us. Thank you for showing me the key to overcoming spiritual attacks. Give me strength to resist the enemy and grace to stand against his attacks. Help me to walk in patience and tolerance, and to forgive those who have hurt me as you have forgiven me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
